Need some technical insight on this because it doesn’t seem normal at all, especially for a brand new unit.
I have a 2026 iRev electric scooter (48V 20Ah, lead-acid) and the charger isn’t behaving correctly.
What’s happening:
Plug charger in → LED stays green
No fan, no heat → not charging
But if I:
Turn the scooter ON
Twist the throttle
Then:
LED switches green → red
Fan kicks on
Charger warms up (starts charging)
As soon as I release throttle → back to green/inactive.
Why this seems wrong:
From what I understand, the charger should detect battery voltage and start charging automatically — it shouldn’t require any throttle input or system load to engage.
This makes me think the charger isn’t properly detecting the battery unless there’s current flowing through the system.
My current theories:
Faulty charger (not sensing voltage correctly)
Charging port / wiring issue
Weak or unstable battery connection
Questions:
Does this behavior point more toward a bad charger or wiring/battery issue?
Why would applying throttle “wake up” the charger?
Is this unsafe to keep trying to charge like this?
Scooter is basically brand new (about a week old), no mods or damage.
Any insight appreciated — just trying to figure out if I should replace the charger or return the whole unit.
