Hello everyone ! :D
I wanted to share my take on the game based on various posts I've read here on Reddit, but also and especially from many YouTube comments.
It’s not cool... when it comes to constructive negative criticism from players; it tends to be quickly brushed aside without anyone taking the time to actually think about their arguments. Often, I see messages like: "If you don’t like the game, just leave. You're just raging because you're bad," or something along those lines.
I understand that someone who just says "this game sucks" without expanding on it doesn't deserve much attention. But what about those who are disappointed with 7DSO because they had high expectations and simply want the game to get better ?
In 7DSO, we often highlight nostalgia and our love for the franchise, which I share as well. However, we can't let that kill our objectivity, otherwise the game will barely improve.
I want to discuss both the positive AND negative points of the game imo, in the most objective way possible !
The Positives
- The Mastery system: 3 types of gameplay per character is truly innovative. You can test multiple specializations, basically getting 3 playstyles in a single character.
- Character quality and skin accessibility: The summonable characters look great, and in this genre of games it's rare to have access to so many free skins.
- Music: Nothing spectacular, but it fits great with the universe of The Seven Deadly Sins.
- Mounts: Open-world exploration feels nice, thanks to the different types of mounts. Being able to use a flying mount in this kind of game is highly satisfying.
- Cutscenes: They are well-made, and the game's lore/story is interesting.
- Creature capture: You can tame pets and mounts. It's just hard that for the most iconic ones, you have to use potions that are only available through events or cashplay (hopefully they make them craftable later !)
- Co-op play: For quests, boss fights, and various dungeons. This creates a great group dynamic with my irl friends, keeping us motivated to jump on together and farm dungeons.
- Keys: You can stack your keys (the resource required for dungeons) every day, up to 50 keys/day if you decide not to do dungeons during that day.
- SSR Weapons: They are craftable in-game. No need to pull for them like in other games of the same genre.
The Negatives
In reality, there are quite a lot of them, which is disappointing for a game released in 2026.
Combat and Gameplay Bugs
The game was in development for about 5 years. We're talking about a highly ambitious project that, factually speaking, hasn't delivered on its promises. Combat bugs are far too frequent :
- Dodge timing: It doesn't match up with reality when trying to react to the bosses' red attack gauges.
- The attack hitboxes: They are broken. The most flagrant example is definitely getting hit right in the face by Galan massive AoE attack even when you are standing directly behind him.
- Dodge / Double-dash mechanics: Instead of just having standard frames (invulnerability frames) during a dodge, it triggers a double-dash to grant temporary invulnerability. Because of this, you often end up landing in an unwanted area (like a boss AoE, for instance). I really don't understand this gamedesign choice.
- Directional bugs: At times, if you execute your combos too quickly, the "left-right" directional inputs temporarily stop working entirely (at least on PC).
- Map glitch: For exampleIn the Ferzen mine cart section, if you get too close to the edge, you get stuck floating in the air, and then boom ! You fall right through the map.
- Other : You have to rebuild your team every time you log back in to play the new endgame mode. Your team isn't saved and sometimes you'll run into a bug where you have to deselect and reselect your weapon because it reset to the character's default weapon, even if the screen shows you have the desired weapon equipped.
I would also like to mention this : It's better than at launch of the game, but I still find myself falling through the map for whatever reason, like dashing into a rock or a wall and then ... vanishing into the map's backrooms :o
I've listed the bugs that annoy me the most here, but there are many others. Others will talk about them with more precision than I here on Reddit ! (I've seen some great and funny posts ^^)
Desync and Server Quality
The game is cross-platform. According to Netmarble this is what causes the lag experienced, as it was apparently the compromise needed to make the game work well across mobile, PC, and PlayStation. However, other competing games also feature online modes, and we don't encounter nearly as many issues. Perhaps the quality of the servers is simply "questionable."
These bugs make combat way less interesting than it could be. Some bosses like galan have highly mobile patterns, but the bugs and lack of optimization make it frustratingly difficult to properly land combos and rotations. In the Space-Time Junction mode, where you need to clear it under 2 minutes, this causes a lot of frustration.
--> "THAT BECOSE U K'NOOB" o_o ! :
In my case, I didn't struggle to clear it in 1m40s (granted, it took me a good fifteen tries with a low-spender team, and I’ve been playing since day one). However, I play on PC, which is noticeably easier than playing on mobile.
Because of the bugs and the frustration, i simply have no desire to improve my time. I only did this fight for the rewards.)
Resource Management, Gear, and Economy
- Useless gear slots: Costumes are used in 99% of cases, leaving all other gear slots (Chestplate, Belt, Pants, and Boots) completely unused, aside from jewelry. The hardest part of optimizing characters is the costume's iLvl, its substats, and finally, the level of its passive (and since the game launched, I still haven't managed to get a single lvl 3 passive 🤷♂️).
- Economy and resource balancing issues: There is a clear calculation issue regarding resource generation. My friends and I all have an overwhelming amount of purple mastery, even though I haven't even been hard-farming dungeons. I've preferred saving my keys for future content instead. You might say: "Well, isn't it a good thing to have plenty of mastery?" In reality, it just shows that the devs messed up the game's economy calculations. Having this much isn't normal.
- The daily ore chore [Platinum] : Let's also talk about the most important resource used in almost all crafting recipes (costumes, SSR weapons, jewelry, elemental enchantment gems). This resource is gathered daily, meaning you have to run around and mine nodes scattered to the four corners of the map. I liked it at first, but now I can't stand it. It's exhausting, and you get very little per node. You need this resource for literally everything. Character optimization depends heavily on it, and you hit a wall very quickly (at least for F2P and low-spenders). I've even seen whales complaining about it !
- Restrictive Key system: We get 50 keys a day, meaning you can only run the biggest dungeons (the ones costing 20 keys) twice a day. Keep in mind that you only drop a single gold (legendary) item per 20 keys spent. Even for a casual player, that is incredibly low. So, I just hoard them, telling myself "meh ! I’ll use them all during a massive farming session one day." But as a result, I barely do anything on the game, i grab my platinum and Alt + F4 :')
Account Buffs (The Daisy Concern & F2P Economy)
Certain characters who don't have the same hype as Meliodas or Escanor are given account-wide passive buffs (like Daisy) that allow you to save resources, specifically the sinews of war: Platinum coins.
Some influencers call it a simple "quality of life" feature, but it's not. It's a strategy designed to force people to pull on low-hype characters, and it's honestly worrying for the future of the game if Netmarble keeps going down this path.
Some people might have been luckier than others during their summons, but we're at the beginning of the game and it's hard to get stellar fragments...
Under normal circumstances, I would have never pulled for Daisy. The character is verry strong but... I don't like her chara design and I'm not a fan of her gameplay. Normally, I only pull for characters I like but here, the buff saves so many resources that I felt forced to pull.
True comfort is... Meliodas's double jump for example. But this ? 4 platinums for a ingot ? That’s a permanent account buff that is way too powerful over time, especially since the game isn't very generous with platinum to begin with.
Escanor was less generous with his account buff é_è ! He just stays in his muscular form.
Translation: it's a roleplay passive. Translation: you don't need any more reasons to pull for Escanor because... it's Escanor ! xD
(Makes sense, I pulled for him ofc)
Technical Issues and Drops in Player Stats
The numbers reflect a reality that isn't pleasant to see: the game simply hasn't generated the hype we were all hoping for. It completely failed to build a strong mobile community (mainly due to optimization issues), even though mobile players are usually the backbone and majority of this type of game.
- Player drop-off (Steam): We went from 47,000 concurrent players on Steam down to 14,000 in April. We saw a spike of 46,000 players on Escanor's release date (April 23rd), but they "vanished" very quickly. Looking at the numbers today, Tuesday, May 5th, we are sitting at around 10,000 players, and the curve is drastically bleeding out. This also means that player retention is currently a real challenge for Netmarble.
- Disastrous optimization: Sure, these are just Steam numbers, but we know PC players make up a huge chunk of the player base alongside PS5 users. When you look at the Play Store reviews, mobile players straight up cannot run the game in acceptable conditions, even on recent phones. Phones are overheating, PS5s are crashing, PCs are crashing... Let's remember that on PC, the recommended specs call for 32GB of RAM to run the game optimally. That is insane for a game that only takes up about 30GB of storage space, which is already way too small for an open-world game compared to titles like Genshin or WuWa released in 2026. On PC, you can't uncap FPS via DLSS; the option is visible but locked to "disabled." Furthermore, certain settings like the resolution scaling quality reset back to "balanced" every single time you launch the game.
Developer Communication
We recently had an AMA on Discord.
That’s a good thing, it was sorely needed ! But aside from that, we barely get anything. The apology letters attached to every single devsnote are losing their value imo, considering the current state of the game is "factually" disappointing. Again, just because we love the 7DS manga/anime doesn't mean we should forgive everything.
So'
You can be a normal player, clear all the end-game content, and still point out the game's flaws and voice your frustration without being labeled a hater (at least, I'd like to think so !).
I get the impression that the resources deployed for 7DSO do not match with the scale of the project. It feels like Netmarble is mostly coasting on the hype/nostalgia, and love we have for the manga/anime franchise, and I find that truly unfortunate.
Let's be real : even graphically, if you put aside the characters which are actually quite well done, the world isn't very pretty... (the rocks in this game look like they belong on a nintendo switch).
Saying "everything is fine" when the game isn't living up to its promises won't help the developers take drastic action.
It's also because I want the game to improve and become a good game that I'm posting all of this!
Throwing free rewards at us to temporarily soothe player frustration won't turn 7DSO into a good game at this rate, even a year from now... it's just not enough.
What do you all think? Do you think the game will improve ? It would be interesting to hear everyone's point of view. Kept respectful and civil, of course ! :)

PS : Stellar Fragments (the summoning resource) are extremely limited for F2P players, and the character release schedule is quite fast. It makes me worried for what's ahead. The compensations and events just aren't cutting it.
