A word of warning and request for advice - I mailed our completed forms and documents from the US, first class international with tracking. USPS lost the packet. They have no recourse for me. They cannot find it, and that's that.

How is it recommended to send it next time? What have people had success with?

I am wondering if the BVA will accept a scanned photocopy of my great grandmother's German birth record if I include a note explaining why I don't have the original?

We sent my great grandmother's original birth record from Germany. There was a reason but I should have moved mountains to keep the original, but I didn't, so here we are, it's gone. The contact for the Standesamt is no longer on the Stadt website, so I emailed the Stadt and have not yet received a response.

Has anyone had success submitting copies of the red ribbon packet or copies of a naturalization packet that says it must be provided in whole still stapled?

Fortunately I have backup certified US naturalization records for each of my great grandparents, but they are low quality (why I didn't send them). My understanding is the originals need to be sent for both, which terrifies me because these are the only ones I have left if everything is lost again. I've re submitted requests to USCIS, it will take a year to receive higher quality records that I can send once I have an AZ number if the are needed, and then I run the risk of then being lost in the mail again.

Thank you for any advice!
