Tenicor Velo 5 and Athena Precision magwell
Ordered the Velo 5 and Athena Precision magwell for the G19.6 last week and received both today. Here’s my take on both, starting with the Velo 5:
First thing first, you guys were right about Tenicor. They are legitimately a great brand. Now price wise, well as they say “You gotta pay to play” 🤷🏾♂️
The build quality is outstanding. The kydex is thick, durable, and precisely molded to the gun with excellent retention right out of the box. It gives a very confident “click” when holstering without being overly tight.
What really sets the Velo 5 apart is the comfort and concealment (may not be for certain body types). The integrated wedge design pulls the grip of the Glock 19 tight against the body, making concealment easy. It distributes pressure well and stayed comfortable during the day of me sitting, driving, and moving around.
The belt clips are rock solid and keep the holster planted exactly where it should be. Works a little too well, it takes an effort to take the holster off, which is a bad thing.
Overall it’s up to you if want to pay close to $150 for the holster, me personally, this will be that last time I spend that much on a holster.
Now the Athena Precision magwell:
If you you’re military (vets included) or leo you get a 25% off discount on all their products. So even with UPS 2 day air shipping you’re only paying around $60 total for the overall price of the magwell.
The build quality is nice, you have an option of choosing an aluminum plug or brass plug which the aluminum magwell attaches to. Mag reloading is smooth and seamless, it does poke out a tad bit while carrying but with a loose shirt I doubt anyone would notice (people’s noses be in their phones anyways). Also another user one here did post about his Athena magwell on a Glock 17.6 and stated they do work with all the major brand mag extensions.
Overall if you’re looking for a nice built functional magwell that’s not $100 plus for a then Athena Precision will be the company to go with. Their price is what the competitors should be.
