Could it be this stupid wooden fence around the ac ?

I want to take the existing wire that is running into the breaker on the air handler and wire it to a disconnect. I have a 1/2 inch whip that I’m going to run from the disconnect into the unit. I would like to know what gauge wire the whip would have to have and what size/ amp disconnect I need.

I replaced a small portion of the supply plenum that is attached to the box which is attached to the supply off the top of the horizontal hair handler. I cut the duct board slightly to small so when I folded the box and taped it up it is like an inch smaller the original. I installed it anyways and used mastic, mesh, spray glue and silver tape. This house has holes in the ceiling and insulation problems so I’m wondering if it’s not cooling properly because of it going from small to large on the supply plenum or if it’s not big enough of a change to make a difference and it’s just the holes in the ceiling and poor insulation. I added the before picture of what I had to fix at the end.
