Hello, first time posting on reddit as I'm after some legal advice from reddit's best.

My partner and I have just reached the end of an 8 month fixed term contract renting a flat in Cardiff - so I contacted the agency to let them know we'd be dropping the keys off within a couple days. However we had both missed a clause in the contract stating that we needed to notify the agency we'd be moving 30 days before, otherwise we need to continue paying rent.

Although I understand it's on us for not noticing this when we signed, I also find it strange that we need to give so much notice considering the contract states when we have to leave by, and we never expressed any interest in extending the contract. From my point of view it would seem common sense that if nothing has changed, we shouldn't need to give notice to move out on the agreed date.

We'd both never seen this but not sure how common-place it is or if there's anything we can do to avoid paying an extra month's rent when we won't be there.

Any and all help is hugely appreciated 👍
