Cat not doing well with cone after spay.
My cat (5yrs old) was spayed May 4th and she is *very* dramatic about the cone being on her head. She acts paralyzed and just flops over on the floor ALL DAY and won't move, eat or drink, she is even soiling herself on occasion.
I have to remove the cone twice a day to feed and give her water but it takes about an hour of not having the cone on for her to settle and even then she's only eating about 2tbsp food PER DAY and drinking tiny amounts of water.
She feels skinnier than normal and weak and I am concerned if this continues her condition will get worse.
The vet advised I reduce her pain meds and said a firm 10 days with the cone, and that it's good that she's eating anything at all... but surely this can't be normal and I'm getting really concerned.
I would love to be done with this whole cone thing and at this point I'm thinking the risk of removing it early is less of a threat than her starving herself and becoming dehydrated.
Is this what a normal recovery looks like?
