Shed floor on Skids or not ?
All,
I am planning to build a 12x16 shed which will be on a crushed stone base. The base will be framed by railroad ties with at least 6 inches of #57 stone with at least 2 feet of spacing all around for drainage / ventilation. I am debating if I should put the floor joists directly on the stone base without any runners / skids. I would bridge the joists to minimize movement either way. Cost is not the issue here , just what would work in Tennessee where we have more heat/rain/humidity and not as much snow ( well sleet :-) )
The pros and cons that I can think of are :
Pros:
- The floor joists have full length support vs just on the runners
- Less space for critters to crawl under / I don't have to put chicken wire to keep critters out
- The over all height is reduced for ramps / steps
Cons
- Maybe not as much air circulation that could lead to moisture issues
- Relocation may not be easy / possible with-out runners
Thoughts ? Newbie here so please be kind :-) . Thanks !!
