Hey everyone,

Been working a lot on my short game recently, especially inside 6–8 feet, and I’ve noticed something I can’t quite figure out.

On some putts, I get really clean contact and the ball rolls exactly how I expect. But other times (even on similar distances), the strike feels slightly off — either a bit dead or slightly pushed. It’s not a huge miss, but enough to affect consistency.

What I’m noticing:

  • Stroke length feels the same, but tempo doesn’t always match
  • Sometimes I feel like I decelerate right before impact
  • On better putts, it feels like the putter just swings through naturally

What I’ve tried:

  • Focusing on a smoother takeaway
  • Keeping my head still through impact
  • Thinking more about distance than mechanics

Some days it clicks, other days it doesn’t.

Questions for you all:

  • Does this sound more like a tempo issue or setup problem?
  • Do you guys focus more on rhythm or mechanics for short putts?
  • Any drills that helped you build consistency in this range?

I’m trying to simplify things instead of overthinking mechanics, but clearly something is off in how I’m repeating the stroke.

Would appreciate any feedback or things to look at
