Hi there! I have a brand new full time job in research administration, which is something I never thought I would say since I have a bachelors and masters in communications. However, the job market is awful and I wasn’t getting any bites in the communications field. When I was in my masters program, I was a grad assistant that worked on the social media for the office of research. So I worked in very close proximity to sponsored programs & research. I became familiar with that office and I would get them their mail. I think that’s what helped me secure this job. But omg I’m so intimidated. I’m so glad that I have a full time job, but this is not my field and the work doesnt sound that crazy. I was told that I would be more on the data entry side which didn’t sound too hard. I would welcome any advice or helpful hints entering this field. Also, I’ve just been watching a bunch of training videos the last few weeks. I haven’t really been given a major tasks. Everyone in this office went to school in different areas like history, art history, etc. so that makes me feel better. I think I just need to take this all one step at a time. I also told myself that I would do this job for a year and then reassess things and see if I want to stay in this field.
