I’ve had BB for 16 years, but now it’s gotten especially bad. My family— who have been blatantly gaslighting me for years that my breath is fine— have now started giving me cough drops, mints, and they OPEN CAR WINDOWS WHEN I START TALKING. Y’all, at this point, all I can do is laugh because of how absurd this is.
I have a 50-minute commute on public transport every day, and when it’s especially crowded, people will sit by me for a few seconds and just decide they’re better off standing.
I’ve got bb coming out from both my nose and mouth. When I floss, use mouthwash, and brush, I’ll contort my throat and slowly push air through my nose (just smelling my throat). It still smells like feces or funky bacteria. I’ll literally only have an inch of toothbrush to hold onto because I’m brushing too deep, so I know it’s not from lack of oral hygiene. Also, I’ve used so many nasal sprays to dry/clear my sinuses, saline rinses, and used to do a lot of salt water and hydrogen peroxide gargling, which always helped for a short period then eventually made the bb significantly worse.
As far as digestive system functionality, I get frog throat instead of a burp. Occasionally, I’ll have mild chest pain immediately after eating and mild abdominal pain 20 minutes after eating, which can last an hour and a half.( I eat really fast, so it could be that.)
In addition to that, I get terrible dry mouth. I carry a toothbrush everywhere, which usually makes the dry mouth subside. Xylitol toothpaste from Gurunamda has helped with this, but, again, only on the short term because the smell from the back of my throat overpowers everything. I’ll pop 4 Altoids, a cough drop, a piece of gum— literally anything— and that smell just seeps out of my nose.
I was vegan for ~4 years—I did a keto diet towards the end of that period thinking it would help, but the smell of ketosis mixed with feces emanating from my face…a week later, I ate a hamburger.
Had a tonsillectomy in 2023 due to this exact reason; thought it was the tonsil stones, but alas.
The main things that have changed during the last 4 weeks were the addition of a prescription that lowers my appetite (not GLP1 ) and starting a probiotic and multivitamin. I saw a few people on this forum mention how, if the odor is gut-related, probiotics don’t address the root of the problem and aren’t actually solving the issue. What do you all think?
Say if it was solving the issue, why the bb especially bad right now? Is my body just getting used to it/bad before it gets good type of situation?
As far as the appetite suppressant, I’ve been eating a meal a day (I snack throughout), and it’s all really healthy, whole foods. Maybe the drastic decrease in calorie intake is what’s emphasized the issue, but still, it’s always there. Also, I’m eating enough carbs so I don’t go into ketosis again.
What would you all suggest? I haven’t done any gut testing yet.
