Hello, I'm a passenger of size and if you look at my post history, I try to make accommodations on my own with as little impact to those seated near and around me. I'm comfortable with flying now and have what works for me so want to travel on Amtrak only to find mixed feedback on purchasing extra seats. Most posts are a couple years old and some say they've had no issues while others say the seating isnt guaranteed as someone else could pick a seat before you and no guarantee two seats next to one another are open.
When I chatted with Amtrak support, I was told that I needed a medical note before they could allow me to do this even if I purchased an extra seat. For coach, I can understand because I think those are the first come/first serve? But it seems like in business, I can choose my seats when booking and see what is currently available or unavailable to make my selections.
I don't understand the need for a note when I am willingly purchasing the extra space. Im not asking for it to be gave to me at no charge as I could understand the need for a note then.
Does anyone has any recent experience with this? The trains Im looking at only offer coach and business seating.
