I have a job and have been signed off sick due to a cancer diagnosis and treatment since Sept last year. My SSP ran out with work in April so I have applied for the ESA to help until I can go back to work.
I have been sent the capability to work questionnaire, and filling this out. I’m a bit concerned as technically at the stage I’m at with my treatment, I could go back to work inbetween appointments if I had a job that was not extremely physical (airline crew). My work has not been forthcoming about trying to find me an alternative role yet as it’s quite difficult for them and takes time but I have been asking them for once my radiotherapy (daily) appts finish.
I spoke to someone on the phone and it all seemed to make sense and I started getting payments already but this questionnaire is reading like technically I can work as there’s not enough side effects now to stop me, if I had a different job. I know my workplace occupational health won’t sign me off to fly themselves anyway so im a bit stuck. How do DWP know that my workplace has not given me an alternative role yet and won’t let me work, if my nurse says I would be ok to work at present on this form (as technically I could if it was a few hours a day at a desk for example) as this questionnaire doesn’t ask anything about my employer and employment information.
Hope this makes sense, just a bit confused as to whether they will then stop paying me the ESA due to not being too unwell to work?
