Marshal, Gates, and Rhodes Fellowships
Hey!
I’m a junior at Virginia Military Institute, student Electrical and Computer Engineering with minors in math and cyber, and I am planning on applying to the Marshal, Gates, and Rhodes Fellowships; hoping to purse cognitive science/engineering or Electrical with concentration in Physics respective to each fellowship.
I have a 3.95 and have had multiple notable leadership positions at my institution as well at internships over summer. I am also part of the honor society here and have already received word that if I go forward with my application I have the schools nomination.
However my worry is in my research experience. I immigrated to the US from Iran when I was 11, so while I was trying to navigate the school system and staying alive financially, research wasn’t on my priority list unfortunately until recently. Thus, while I have some research experience (minor papers and posters) I don’t have anything extensive.
I was hoping members of this subreddit can help answer:
- Will that automatically disqualify me?
- How would you recommend me approaching the application to at least land an interview?
- Any tips or pointers to keep in mind?
- And anything else I should know or keep in mind?
Thank you so much in advance!
