Hey folks,
I really enjoy the work so many people put into their creations here! I don't know how the economics of zines work, so please forgive me if this is an ignorant request.
I am a guitar amplifier tech and pedal designer getting started out of my garage in Indiana. I have been selling a good deal of one-off custom orders, but I am currently working on a series of pedals that I plan to sell online. Everything is hand-assembled by me in my home workshop.
Here's what I want to do: I'd like to include with every order a small (and randomized) collection of "small art" (zines, little prints, stickers, independently-recorded CDs, anything else). Everything sourced from independent makers. The more novice, the better. The plan is that each box will be a unique celebration of human art and a middle finger to the age of AI, hopefully to serve as inspiration and thanks to the folks who support independent makers.
My question is this: what is the best way to go about amassing zines from folks to do this? I'd really like to have a large collection to send out, and with a wide range from totally novice to professional. Is it acceptable to ask anyone who is interested to send me their zines for free distribution and to get more eyes on their work? If publicity toward more potential readers is not adequate compensation, then what should I be offering?
