I am currently homeless in San Diego and am having my right kidney removed and hydronephrosis removed from my left kidney. The surgery will be open not laparoscopic and I will be released with drains. I have been working with my housing case manager but it’s been hard to get a hold of her and we have run into some problems. I can’t go to a place like ECTL because of my medical needs after surgery. Such as a nurse coming once a week to replace bandages and empty the drains. A recuperative care home won’t take me because they don’t take open surgical sites or drains. And the skilled nursing homes that accept my insurance (Medi-Cal/Community Health Group) won’t accept me without a sold transition plan for when it’s time for me to be released.
I’m asking here because maybe someone is in social services and knows of a program that I haven’t been able to find. My case manager quit last week and I haven’t heard from a new one yet. Turn over is extremely high which I understand. My surgery is May 4th. But my surgeon won’t operate unless I have stable housing. I’ve had a lot of surgeries and procedures and a few while I’ve been homeless but this one scares me a little.
