I started as a UI/UX intern at a small US-based startup (remote, from India) at ₹10k/month. After 6 months, I was converted to full-time (March 2025) with a salary of ₹25k. At that time, my manager said we’d revisit my compensation after 6 months based on performance.

When the 6-month mark came, the company was going through financial issues, so I didn’t bring it up.

Now it’s been over a year, and my workload and responsibilities have definitely increased compared to when I started full-time. I’ve been handling more ownership and contributing more independently.

Also, a few months ago, they asked if I’d be willing to relocate to Bangalore and said they could increase my salary by ₹15k if I did (which would make it ~₹40k).

I’m still working remotely, but I feel like I’ve outgrown my current salary and should bring this up now.

My questions:

  • What would be a fair salary to ask for in this situation?
  • Is asking for ₹50–55k too much, or reasonable?
  • How should I approach this conversation without sounding pushy?

Would really appreciate advice, especially from people in tech/design roles or similar situations.
