Advice for neighbor harboring a mosquito breeding ground
My neighbor has a decrepit pool that hasn’t been used in years and is in disarray. The only function it serves is to collect rain water and create an unbearable mosquito breeding ground every year. I’m located in the highlands so our homes are quite close to each other.
As neighbors, we aren’t necessarily on friendly speaking terms as she is quite reclusive and rarely leaves her house. There’s no animosity, she just keeps to herself. I’m having trouble confronting her and asking her to take care of the problem. She’s quite old and her backyard is neglected. It’s too much for her to take care of at this point.
We have planted a huge garden full of pollinators, grasses, etc. in hopes to bring in predatory insects to help mitigate the mosquitos, but it’s still quite bad. My wife and I don’t want to spray our yard for pesticides for a variety of reasons.
I am aware of a Louisville city ordinance that prohibits stagnant water that promotes mosquito breeding. I’m curious if others have had similar situations and how you handled it. Is it worth filing a complaint with the city?
Thanks in advance!
