Coughing and laughing
Laughing triggers my GERD cough.
I've only recently discovered I had GERD, when a GP suggested it was likely, after I reported a nighttime cough and painful acid reflux. It's worrying this hasn't been picked up before, as I've now had two chest scans for the cough - the first one was a decade ago. Both all clear. PPIs are a game-changer for me, but not a total solution.
Anyway, the last two evenings I've laughed my head off at a television programme, and it led to intense coughing and last night a very poor night's sleep. I woke in the night feeling like my throat had been contorted.
How can laughing be bad for you? Does anyone else suffer more with GERD after laughing hard?
