I'm talking Iron Widow and Deadly Education/Scholomance in particular. Female MCs who will kill, might enjoy it, but generally try to be a force of good in the world. I particularly prefer the kind who might dabble in romance, but generally have bigger fish to fry.

I also enjoyed Novik's The Power (but that was a bit harrowing, so I won't be rereading that anytime soon), When Women Were Dragons (also a little on the heavy side) and just about anything by Margaret Rogerson (Vespertine, Sorcery of Thorns).

I also really enjoy To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquell Blackgoose, and have been know to consume the occasional goey paranormal romance like Ali Hazelwood's Bride or some of Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling books.

Aside from the title, I also prefer books with thoughtful writing (not a fan of BookTok popular fiction like Onyx Storm and Court of X and Y) and well-thought out world-building. I did try Not Even Bones, but it wasn't my favourite. And I Darken is another book that almost made the cut, but not quite.

Anyone else out there like me 😅
