I’ve seen a few posts here about passports and paper citizenship certificates, with some people saying that you need to submit the original certificate. I wanted to share that after receiving my paper certificate in the mail and starting my passport application, it appears you can submit a photocopy of your citizenship certificate instead of mailing the original. This is based on the application instructions shown below (Section 4).

However, on the Apply for a new adult passport in Canada - What you need to apply for a passport, it clearly states, "If you have a paper certificate, it must be the original document, not a photocopy."

Is for people who received their proof of citizenship before 2012? Thought this might be a good question, as I've seen a majority of people state you need to send in the original copy.
