Fallout 3 crashed on pressing new game (nothing new), and I put it in windows 7 compatibility mode and copied d3d9.dll into the game folder. It started up, but when I got to the part where they let you pick your face, instead of the computer screen with the image on it, I got a gray box with black shapes where the interface should be (e.g. black circle where the face would be). It makes sounds when I click around, like you'd expect if you were interacting with buttons and sliders.

I haven't found something specific for this bug, but I may just be using the wrong search terms
