Upgrade sound or video?

I’m currently a college student, and as I’m coming back to my parents house for the summer (pardon the mess in the photo I’m not home to take a better one lol) where I have this setup, I’m looking to start upgrading to get the best of my blu-ray collection. But college budget is limited, so my options are basically to choose one of either video or sound. Whichever I do, for the time being I’m only here for a little under half the year, but I’m starting to upgrade for the purpose of taking it to wherever I’ll live after college. I’d say at MOST we’re looking at a 1500 dollar budget over the entire summer.

Video: currently I have a cheap Vizio TV, I believe the V4K50C-0809. It’s fine, 50 inches 4K and DV and gets the job done but I know I can do a lot better. I also definitely want a bigger TV, but that could wait.

Sound: I have no sound system whatsoever, but I do have Sony XM4s for solo watching . I’d probably start by saving a couple paychecks for a decent entry grade receiver (hoping 400 open box/refurbished kinda thing) and then I have a pair of old, cheap bookshelf speakers from my dad that I’d use, then over the summer add a center channel, sub and if I’m lucky surrounds (but I know that would also mean the room would need to be arranged to not have a corner TV). Speakers I may look into used.

Which option would you say is more worth it? Obviously in the end it’s subjective, but I’d love some advice for either one and just to hear some recommendations or anything :)

I want to have a better setup for audio with my TV as I collect 4K blu-rays and I figure it’s seeing if within my budget I could upgrade but I have literally no idea where to start.

I know 5.1 essentially means there’s 5 speakers (center, front and back left and front and back right) but I hear things like amplifier, receiver, subwoofer and it kinda all means nothing to me. I don’t know if different speakers need to be different or if you could just hook up anything to be a right or center speaker (for example). I don’t know if they connect directly to the TV or the blu-ray player and it makes it difficult to know where to start and what to buy first. Any very simple explanations could would be super helpful.

I was gonna order this box set to get all the movies cheap and easy, but I know about the infamous 4K transfer of terminator 2. Does this one include this one on the blu-ray (not the 4K disc, just the fucky AI upscaled version of the film)? If so are there any other problems with the box set? If it’s good enough I’ll just pick up another copy of the second film and replace the blu ray but if not maybe I should just get all the films individually (plus then I could get the first film on 4K).
