“Morning Alarm for the Common Man”
You whom I cannot save, Listen to me.
You have been made the victims Of a monumental con.
Hope is a beautiful thing, But you can’t eat it. You can’t drink it. It won’t keep a roof over your head, Or gas in your car.
You can’t bring the coal back into a mine. You can’t bring the cars back into a factory. You can't bring the grains back into a farm. You can’t turn back time.
The men on your screens Have spoken of miracles. There are no miracles. Shamans of the people’s spirit Will not heal you. They will not return What they have taken.
I beg of you, Turn off your televisions And look around. The world is not as it would be In the promises they made. It is dark and cold And the only one you have.
You whom I cannot save, Save yourselves.
