Hey there! This was my first cycle applying to vet school as a Canadian. I was accepted to one of the top 3 in the US, but will be paying $300 000+ and taking a student line of credit with 5% interest right now with zero help other then my parents will co-sign. Aside from that I was ideally trying to get into my province vet school since financially it would be smarter, but was rejected leaving this my option right now.
The Canadian school is notoriously hard to get into many people trying 3+ times, and still getting rejected. Another option would be to continue working and saving up to re-apply this fall and decline the US school now. However, just with how this Canadian school is I may take multiple tries.
I’m a very impulsive person and I just want to go to US and figure it out later. I like taking risks and have sometimes stupid radical optimism. I am a hard worker and have 3 jobs currently, sometimes 5 each summer in between school years so part of me strongly believes I can do it and am a good student hopefully could get some financial help through that.
Those that are in debt from vet school, is it worth it? Do you have any regrets about trying harder to get into your state school? What did it feel like post-grad DVM with so much debt?
Thank you everyone, I have lots of appreciation for what I’ve read so far on here regarding debt but answering this specific question would be helpful I think maybe not just for me :)
