I’ve got my gripes with season 5 (where are the space scenes in my space show?) but I will say the new characters, especially Boyd, have proved to be very compelling. Her nuanced take on the hostage situation was brilliantly written. It makes you realize she is essentially on a third team by herself in trying to keep the peace. She knows for a fact she cannot trust Palmer and I don’t blame her for not giving weapons to the unstable dude who just held a gun to the governor. Seeing her comprehend the complexity and real danger of the situation in real time was also amazingly portrayed by Mireille Enos. Seriously why did it take until now to get her in the show?
