Bookkeeping for absolute beginners
I’ve got a side hustle going that’s beginning to make money. It had to be put on hold a couple times for personal reasons, but that’s in the rear view mirror now. My tax guy helped me through the first two tax seasons and now I’d like to be more proficient and make everything easier.
I’ve been making money and have focused on a different angle of my business so the cost outlay is less. It’s been a good pivot for the time being and I can get back on track with the rest later. So I signed up with QB on the cheap plan. It’s great. But I need to learn more since I fouled up a couple things that I haven’t figured out how to fix yet. QB kind of assumes I have the basics down. I need “show me like I’m 5” training.
Math of any kind is highly anxiety inducing (thank the perfectionist parents and ADHD) so I need VERY simple and basic learning. I’m far from stupid, I’ve just never been able to get over it. It’s really my only handicap owning a business, but I take it slow and get through it. Until I made those mistakes, I was doing fine with QB and fairly comfortable.
They may not even be that big of a deal, but my anxiety won’t let it rest. So a better understanding of the basics is going to help. The explanations in QB for a fix assumes I know where and what I did wrong. So, I while get some of the gist, it’s not enough and I don’t want to make it worse. It looks to me that not fixing it right will just make it snowball into a bigger mess.
What are some good, preferably free, resources for very basic bookkeeping learning? Hiring a one-off bookkeeper isn’t in the budget yet.
Thanks for slogging through my post and any help you can give.
