B.Sc IT + LL.B: Should I focus on privacy/compliance certifications or pursue CS along with LL.B?

Hi everyone. I would appreciate some career guidance from people already working in corporate law, compliance, privacy, governance, or related fields.

Background:

  • I have completed a B.Sc in Information Technology.
  • I am planning to pursue a 3-year LL.B.
  • My long-term interest is in tech law, data protection, privacy, compliance, governance, and in-house corporate roles rather than litigation.

Right now I am confused between two paths:

  1. LL.B + professional certifications (Examples: privacy/data protection/compliance certifications like CIPP, CIPM, ISO-related certifications, etc.)

OR

  1. LL.B + Company Secretary (CS)

I know CS is highly respected in compliance and corporate governance, but it also requires a major time commitment. On the other hand, certifications seem more specialized toward privacy/data protection roles, especially combined with my IT background.

My questions are:

  • Which path has better long-term scope for in-house corporate roles?
  • Does a B.Sc IT + LL.B combination already provide a good advantage in tech/privacy/compliance roles?
  • Is CS almost mandatory for higher compliance positions in India, or can certifications + experience compensate?
  • For someone who prefers privacy/compliance over traditional litigation, what would you recommend?
