I called a company to tow an inoperable vehicle. I asked what the hookup fee was and per mile cost. $150 & $5 per mile. Going 30 miles. The total the person gave me was ~$450 + tax. He was going to discount it to $3/mile and total would be $386 + tax. I'm a high school graduate. The math wasn't mathing. He then informed me that the cost also included the mileage from the drop off point to their base. WTF?? Is this normal? I understand that there may be minimum charges if the mileage isn't far enough. 30 miles should be way over minimum mileage though.
