Software Technical Interview - how screwed am I?
Full-stack Software Dev career-changer here. After qualifying myself as far as possible and with my current job coming to an end, I'm in the job-search phase of my transition.
I'm having trouble understanding how the perceptions of the tech landscape have changed, particularly around AI use. Some of my tutors have said that it's everywhere and unavoidable, so use it. This hindered me in the learning phase though, as when building React components or building databases and server logic, I didn't go through the struggle-phase - I would attempt, get lost, and get the answer handed to me on a golden platter.
This resulted in a feeling of having gaps towards the projects in my technical portfolio. I can explain the "why" behind each function and how it fits into the grander architecture, and line-by-line I can describe generally what is going on, but ask me to create that without help and I'm useless, especially as my projects include complex forms of state management, database and API handling, etc.
What do I need to keep in mind when getting screened for jobs? How can I properly remedy this? I'd love to be ready by the time my current job ends middle of the year, but tell me if this is unrealistic.
