I’m deciding to go to college 2 years after graduating high school and I’m worried about being accepted into any med programs.
I work full time (60+ hour weeks) as of right now and travel frequently for work, so a flexible online degree would be the most optimal course for getting my bachelor’s. I’m currently looking at getting a Bachelor in Health Sciences at WGU and then going to a post-bacc program in order to get the necessary pre-reqs and provide a GPA.
My main concern is if med schools generally prefer a traditional 4 year university or if an online degree with a post-bacc program will be similarly accepted. I know a lot of it boils down to volunteer hours, clinical hours, GPA, and MCAT score, but I’m wondering if there’s much of an impact going to an online college vs in-person 4 year.
I also know WGU is a bit controversial since they do pass/fail instead of letter grades. Would that be an issue or not if I intend on doing a post-bacc and getting good grades?
Regardless I would quit my current job next year to either pursue a post-bacc program after graduating WGU or start at a university. I would also get a different job that better aligns with schooling.
