First Leica Q3 - New user thoughts
What’s up people? First post here, got my first Leica Q3 a few months ago, been loving it more than I should and this thing is just a beast, had to get the copper trio and that beautiful strap. Bad thing is that it’s already making my hands shake for an M.
But the post isn’t about my first Leica, is about a few impressions and ask something to the community…
1st, I love it. It is a little weird getting used to the commands, I’m coming from a Canon R5 that I still have for some other projects.
2nd, these new commands already made me lose a whole day of shooting (I’m in Japan right now) and basically, I did some burst shots of a train and before I got to my hotel I decided to check it out. The burst photos show up as a whole group in one and a play icon, so when I selected to delete, it asked if I wanted to delete one or every photo without a star… So thinking it was only about that burst sequence… Deleted. And it was at that moment I knew I fucked up. Now I learned.
3rd, wish the screen could be folded backwards to the camera for safety.
4th, the battery. I have noticed it can get drained pretty quickly, yes I leave on Eco for the Photos App, yes I like to have my geotagging. So I am thinking of either buying a second battery here with a dual battery charger. I hate to keep opening that little flap to charge and get the photos to my iPad (faster than the WiFi) it just feels I’m going to fuck it up someday, it feels so flimsy… Or, get the wireless grip. I never see anyone using it so I don’t know if it’s really worth it. I know for transfers I would still need to open it but I can wait for the download… Also the grip is hella expensive. I read that you don’t need the base, it can be charged with any Qi device… Is that true?
5th, just something I noticed. I use a manfrotto bag, the camera needs to be placed screen down. One day I felt the whole thing HOT, like, I am afraid it will catch fire hot… Camera was burning up, almost no battery left (it was at the bag most of the morning) but yes I left it on by mistake but damn… No photos taken by miss pressing the shutter, did it get hot for half pressing it? It wasn’t recording by mistake too
6th, I’m still thinking if I get the dude in Tokyo to engrave it
Sorry the long post TL;DR should I buy a new battery or get the wireless grip? Camera got hella hot in the bag.
