Diseases (the ones that aren’t named after a person or place) are considered to be common nouns, and therefore they don’t get capitalized. But what distinguishes diseases from places or people in terms of being names? Is it something to do with the origins of their roots or something else? Thanks for any help you can provide!

In regards to capitalization, I know we do not capitalize the names of diseases unless they are named after specific people or places, but why is that? Are they not as unique as religions or languages, which do get capitalized?
