Hello everyone. We're dealing with a really weird and honestly tough situation with the company that manages the apartments we stay in.
To start, this place has changed management three or four times during us staying here for one year. Half of the apartments are falling apart and some are even closed off. When we signed a lease, we initially had an emergency situation and needed to move into a unit ASAP. The first unit was covered in black mold, with the ceiling and flooring caving in inside of the living room. The carpet was moist and the slide door was off of the hinge. Obviously, I told them I wanted a different unit because of this.
They move us into a new unit, claiming that its "freshly remodeled" and a "two bedroom" and we will recieve it at a discounted rate for the rent we were originally supposed to pay. It was a one bedroom landord special. And then the cracks started to show.
From the fireplace's mantle literally cracked down the middle, to the bathroom walls peeling and the entire area needing to be resurfaced, the unit not being clean on move in (found a chewed up dog toy under the stove and grime), the door sill detached, roaches and wasps coming into my home, a leak in the window next to the outlet that they didnt fix until eight months later, a half detached dishwasher, and unmounted sink.
I have emails regarding all of these issues with the current and previous management companies, with most still not being fixed. And now that our lease ends on the 14th, we talked to them renewing at either a continued discounted rate, a taken care of two bedroom at regular cost, or this unit fully repaired and/or remodeled at regular cost.
When the property manager arrived, she said that we needed to clean the house. So we did, and even hired a cleaning service to ensure that it is up to standard.
They come by tomorrow. I look at our rent, which was stated at $161.14 at the first of the month which I can only assume is because the lease ends in the middle of the month...and now suddenly its $764 with a late fee applied.
I dont exactly have the money now, as I used it as an opportunity to catch up on other bills that were overdue. I'm not really sure on what to do, as I was banking on it being that $161 and now suddenly its over $700. I've put up with a lot with living at this place including a front desk man literally sexually harassing my husband (security footage and emails documented about this.) and now we're dealing with this on top of it. The property manager kept interrupting the person offering a resurface of the bathroom and doesn't seem like she wants to cooperate with us.
I have corperate's number, and im highly considering contacting an attourney and code enforcement. Im waiting to see how tomorrow goes, but im really just not sure. Its difficult because this is the newest management company, despite their maintenence team unable to mount a sink properly and using the wrong materials for it that WE had to clean out because it molded.
Im so frustrated.
