Are these red flags?
Hi everyone,
I recently moved from hospitality into my first SDR role and wanted the opinions of people who have done tech sales longer than me.
I’m currently on a 3 month contract with the possibility of moving permanent if I perform well. The role is £30k base / £40k OTE (feels low but it is entry level)
My targets are:
50 dials a day - which seems easy
1 booked meeting per working day
A few things are making it hard to tell whether its a me problem or if the setup here is messy:
The prospect lists honestly aren’t great quality
AEs are already actively prospecting a large chunk of the accounts, so maybe ~40% of the people on our lists are already being worked
We often don’t get enough fresh data/lists, so a lot of time gets spent checking whether someone is “safe” to contact instead of actually selling
We’re required to record calls, but the process isn’t automated, so we have to manually download/upload recordings manually which eats up even more time/admin
I’m trying to figure out:
Is this normal for entry SDR roles? Or are these genuine warning signs/red flags?
At what point do you stick it out for experience vs deciding the environment won’t help you progress?
For context, I actually enjoy the sales side and I’m learning a lot, but some of the operational side feels really inefficient and makes it harder to hit targets consistently.
Would appreciate honest opinions from people who’ve worked similar roles or managed SDR teams.
