I work in a school right now for kids with behavior problems and I generally like it, even when it’s challenging. However I was browsing per diem jobs and came across a position with OPWDD. It would be outpatient working with kids and adults with developmental disabilities. I would keep the same state benefits but get a significant raise so I applied. Now I have an interview next week.

Has anyone ever worked outpatient with people who have developmental disabilities? If so how was it? I’ve worked with 18-22 in schools but I haven’t done outpatient. It would be a big leap so I’m very curious to hear from anyone who’s done this. Thanks in advance.

I live in a small apartment within a 40 unit building and I have an infestation of some kind of fruit fly or gnat thing. The second I sit down I get swarmed by these tiny bugs flying in my face. I can’t relax bc I get swarmed by bugs. They land in my food while I’m eating and they’re impossible to kill.

I clean every week. I leave fruit on the table sometimes but the second it’s ripe I eat it. They’re never by the fruit at all. In the past when I’ve had fruit flies it’s because I have an overripe fruit out. The second I get rid of it they go away. I do have some crumbs in my kitchen but not a ton. I use pellet litter for my cats but I scoop it everyday and sift it out once a week. I’ve never gotten a fruit fly infestation like this from a few crumbs and some litter. They’ve really exploded in population and I think they’re breeding in my apartment unit somewhere. Maybe in the drains? The drains are old and I’m not sure about pouring boiling water down them, or whatever else you’re supposed to do.

I have houseplants so I thought maybe it was fungus gnats but they’re all over the apartment. I find them in the toilet. I found dozens of dead ones recently on the filter for my cats water fountain. I threw it away, thinking that was the source, but it continues to get worse. They somehow crawled under the tape for some signs I have in the window and died there? I had one in my water pik the other day, for gods sake.

I read about something called phorid flies and I’m wondering if that’s what they are. If so how the heck do I get rid of them?? I am desperate so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
