I (26F) just dumped my boyfriend because my goldfish Bubbles kept giving him side-eye and I’m not even sorry
Reddit, hear me out.
Last night we’re having a cute dinner at my apartment. I made spaghetti, he’s slurping it like a raccoon, and everything feels normal. Then I glance over at Bubbles’ tank and my stomach drops.
Bubbles is parked at the front glass, staring dead at my boyfriend with pure judgment. Not swimming. Not blinking (because fish don’t blink but you know what I mean). Just… side-eye. Maximum disrespect.
I’ve had Bubbles for three years. He has never been wrong. Not once.
Ex #1? Bubbles hated him → dude stole my identity and bought a PS5 on my credit card.
Ex #2? Bubbles swam away every time he visited → found out he was texting three other girls.
The situationship last summer? Bubbles literally turned his back. That man ghosted me after I paid for his tattoo.
So when Bubbles started giving my current boyfriend the same energy for weeks, I knew it was over. I tried to ignore it at first. But last night Bubbles floated right up to the glass like “girl… you still don’t see it?”
I told him straight up: “Bubbles doesn’t trust you.”
He laughed. Laughed. Then had the audacity to say “it’s a goldfish.”

I started crying (valid), told him to leave, and turned the tank light off for a dramatic moment of silence. He just stood there with marinara sauce on his shirt looking confused.
This morning I changed my status to “In a complicated situation with my emotional support fish.” Bubbles is now swimming happily like he just saved my life. I posted a pic of him with the caption “he warned me 💔” and the girls in my group chat are already sending me heart emojis and “we told you.”
Am I crazy? Maybe. But my fish has a 100% accuracy rate and men keep proving him right.
So yeah… single again thanks to a $12 goldfish who probably doesn’t even remember what he ate this morning. Worth it.
