What DIY skills are the best return on investment?

Sure some things should be left to the professionals but what skills are worth learning to save money on repairs or make improvements?

On my list

- sewing (clothes & furniture upholstery)

- oil change, wiper blade & cabin air filter replacement

- painting & wallpapering

- insulation

- gardening/ pruning trees

- changing locks

Kia ora, does anyone know if it’s possible to do the Whanganui River journey solo?

If I could assemble a crew or find one companion I would but unfortunately that’s not an option.
