Maxim Roller Delayed Test - Works!

After two separate OOBD that blew the bolt catch off and one that had a squib, I decided to get the Maxim Defense Roller Delayed Buffer System.

I don’t care about soft recoil or pounds of force required to charge. I only care about it not blowing up in my face. I was using a bolt machined by Rudy at Macon Armory. He took the bottom feed lug off the bolt which was causing a less-supported portion of the casing. I was using his dead-blow buffer which may have been overfilled and still allowing bolt bounce.

I got the Angstadt Arms AR-15 9MM Bolt Carrier Group that has a proper feed lug, the Maxim RDB, and a new bolt catch.
Now the case is supported and there is no bolt bounce.
As a side effect, the recoil is also MUCH SOFTER, which I will gladly take. I ensured I was not preloading the RDB, so every time I charge it, that 32lbs of force required makes me feel like it won’t have an OOBD - a very fair trade. It’s noticeably harder to charge, but it’s not actually difficult.

Here’s a clip showing it cycling (zero bolt bounce) and the LRBHO working.

Took my new Sig Cross “HXT” to the range for the first time today. I was shooting Hornady American Whitetail 129 gr InterLock. I got zeroed at 100 yards pretty quickly and stacked a couple of rounds at 100 yards.

I was having so much fun and started shooting more “quickly” and the groups opened up a little, but not too badly.

The bolt is smooth, the trigger is excellent, and I love the adjustable stock. Folding the stock is cumbersome, but unfolding it is pretty easy. The Sig Radial Brake blows a lot of gas back at you and is very effective at reducing felt recoil.

My NightForce UltraMount is a 20-MOA cantilever, so my turret is maxed out at 100 yards and I have to hold 7MOA High. I will zero at 200 yards. After I have it zeroed at 200yd, I will take it out to 800yd and report back.

Very fun gun!
