Advice On Home Bunisness Zoning Restrictions

Hi all,

I've been gearing up to officially start a small business out of my home woodshop. I've been making and selling the occasional piece of furniture as a hobby for years, and my plan was to make it official, apply for all the local cities permits, licenses, etc. I was also planning on selling lumber.

Here's the issue: I've just learned that home businesses in my city are not allowed to have in person customers, sell retail, or operate out of a secondary building outside of the actual home. I can't even have a sign outside my house! Obviously, this throws a huge wrench into my plans...

I'm looking for some advice on how I can navigate this.

It baffles me that the local government has any say in how I am allowed to run a business (sole proprietor) on my own property.
