Second-hand lenses in New Zealand

I recently bought a second-hand Nikon D3300. I cannot wait to get stuck in! I took a photography course about a million years ago in the States, but my knowledge is rusty and somewhat outdated. I finally took the camera plunge when a budget-friendly option popped up on Marketplace.
Where I live in the South Island, we have stunning high-country hikes and regularly decent mid-latitude aurora australis displays. I want to buy lenses in the near future to accommodate these interests -- they are the two things that drag my butt out of the house.
I am returning to the States for several months in a few months. There I would have access to a greater range of second-hand lenses, but the NZ market isn't half bad. I want to buy at least one lens here before I return to the States.
I would appreciate any advice—especially if it is NZ-specific. Living at the bottom of the world has its perks, but it can leave budget-conscious shoppers' options somewhat constrained.
