Do we know of animal trials occuring in Byzantine and/or Ottoman times? If so, what particularities did they have?

I have recently been engorged in animal trials transpiring in medieval Europe. The phenomenon (as well as the nature of the trials themselves) has led me to wonder whether the Romans or the millets of the Ottoman Empire had any instances of animal trials.

I was led to this query partly after studying Poulologos and the assorted cycles of Roman literature featuring talking animals (and vegetables).

If not, why were animal trials endemic to western and central Europe?

For the sake of conversation, let us use the conventional, vast timespan of 330 to 1912, focusing on the areas of the Balkans and Anatolia.
