Trying to do glazing (again)

Trying to do glazing (again)

WAs using the edge of a base inbetween matchs of a game i was playing to quickly do a tiny bit of practice with glazing and i know these two colours are very different but they are just what i had handy when i was painting the votann above practicing stuff, in reality i would mix different colours together. wasnt done with it but i wanted to know what people thought if my glazing is fine if it looks like im doing it right and such

Colour schemes of Votann

Hey i just got my first votann, he came from my local-ish warhammer store and i just wanted to know what colours people do on him or atleast what colour factions would have, was just taking a close look at him and there was so much that i would have thought to be leather and i didn't want him to just be entirely shades of brown so. any examples of main schemes or schemes you guys have painted would be nice.

Context first, the first 5 pictures are my most recently done miniature and the last 2 are the first two i did (the most recent is simply my third miniature ever)

So here is my most recent terminator, i'm actually quite happy with him and fairly happy with my first attempt at putting any form of volumetric lighting (before i decided to try glazing the colours together as it started to look less good and seemed to have some sort of coffee staining on the sides of the shin plates and despite watching so many videos i still don't know what i am doing wrong. but i am happy i'm getting a bit used to doing the eyes lmao since i was scared of it. And finally for my newest miniature i had some weird texture when doing my layer of morghast white, all i know is it wasn't too thick as it took lots of layers (3 or 4) and i am not sure why but i think it might have actually been texture from a previous layer of me trying to glaze and try techniques underneath that i reprimed over so that is yet to be seen to as if i made that texture now or not.

The other two terminators starting with image 6 being my first attempt which i was happy he was looking kinda ok, on track to looking battle ready or tabletop standard even if a bit sad looking. but then i thought the white was a bit too bright for what i wanted (i think the base coat was just screaming skull or something so i tried to add skeleton horde contrast and it just looked awful in the end. I think it is probably because i didn't add any water to it but i remember when i looked at it i kinda felt as though it was really watery and was probably fine out of the bottle and maybe paid the price for it.

The final image was my second terminator where i mostly just tried to learn a bit better on doing good edge highlights, getting a slightly darker bone shade and also trying occlusion shadows or blacklining. sadly i felt as though my lines were way to messy on the blacklining and i felt they were way too thick lines and really really dirty, not the idea i wanted for them but would be a kind of good affect to make something dirty but just not for filling those tiny recesses.

And finally an issue i had with all of them, these were my first ever miniatures, also the first miniatures assembled by me so they have sprue lines and the seams are super visible so don't need to comment about it lmao i know. if you care to help me find out how to fill in the cracks in between areas like the seams then i'm open to hearing that thanks. The other issue they all were having was using rhinox hide as my base i think, was kind of wanting a mix between volumetric and "flat" with edge highlighting making sure it would be easily readable on the table if i ever play tabletop and i think rhinox hide for the shadows colour was just way too dark, probably gunna move to xv88 as it seems to just blend better into the zandri dust i think.

Finally thanks to everyone who has answered questions recently and helped with every little thing i need as someone new to the hobby it was all really helpful. sadly i will probably still be here asking advice frequently like "how do i glaze still lmao" but hopefully less the more i'm doing this hobby.

So not sure whats causing it yet, im using zandri dust just by brush trying to get used to just using a brush in general, was going fine i was able to get to a decent consistency that was working "albeit needing like 6 or so layers to finally fully cover the whole surface.

then i noticed that these black areas were appearing only on the edges of surfaces. i tried painting back over those areas and they sometimes reappear later still, the zandri dust is watered down so i really dont think its too thick and dont know what else could cause it.

Almost finished my first model (a very hideous terminator from the starter set) and i know where colours go mostly except the silver and black on the guns and also the crux terminatus, when searching in certain places people are using different colours from gold to very pale white like corax white to a more metalic silver and sometimes a very deep dark black metal look. i know i can do whatever type i want but i wanted to know what the actual correct colour is.
