The difference between 28 and 43 is insane
I feel like this doesn’t get talked about that much, or at least not in a really detailed way.
You don’t often see a proper comparison between 28mm and 43mm — not just in terms of framing, but in how the lens actually renders the scene. The character, the way it separates the subject from the background… that stuff tends to get overlooked or only briefly mentioned, without really showing it side by side.
Also, I think it’s pretty important to understand the difference between Summilux and Summicron lenses in general, because they push you to shoot in very different ways.
Summilux tends to be softer and more “dreamy” — it naturally draws attention to the subject and kind of lets the background fall away. Summicron, on the other hand, feels much more clinical and precise. It doesn’t really “hide” the background — it actually brings more of it into play, adds context to the scene, and in some situations that can make it a bit harder to work with if you’re trying to isolate your subject.
Because of that, 43mm probably isn’t the most obvious choice for street photography. You can definitely make it work, but to me it feels more natural for product shots or portraits, where that rendering and subject separation (or intentional lack of it) really stand out.
I’ve only had the Q3 for about two days — just got it recently — but I already wanted to share some photos. Mostly to show how this lens actually performs, how much character it has, and how different it feels.
More than anything, I want to highlight the difference between 28mm and 43mm, because to me it’s pretty significant.
Curious what you guys think — do you actually prefer the more “honest” look of Summicron, or the softer, more subject-focused rendering of Summilux?
