I've tried everything, I can't find the type of music I want, Underground by Tom Waits is a good example, but I want that chain gang/production line type song. I'm gonna list some music and it's gonna be all over the place, I'm aware.

The songs that stand out are the beat from Golden Age Of Grotesque (Marilyn Manson), and the style of We All Lift Together (Keith Powers) and Underground (Tom Waits), or Boots Boots Boots from the 28 Years Later movie, but no synth just rhythmic percussion. I don't want that upbeat poppy pseudo-blues like Mumford and Sons, I want grit and darkness and rough instruments.

To quote Dylan Moran: "I ain't got nothing, now they're taking that too."

Gimme that Roxanne cover from Moulin Rouge (just mute Ewan McGregor), that Louis Armstrong/Tom Waits 15 bottles of whisky and 30 packs of cigarettes kinda voice with that production line/chain gang/stomp and clap (?)

I'm fully aware I'm being hyper specific, Spotify is giving me Hozier, and The White Stripes, if I wanted the music collection of a young white Uni student, I'd ask for that. I want downtrodden and beaten down, I want a voice who sounds like a throat full of rocks, and that Underground vibe. I want to have an image of grim Russian gulag prisoners breaking stone with hammers, dirty dwarven slaves down in the mine hitting stone in sync, percussion with pickaxes, under watch from a nine foot orc.

How do I ask Spotify for that?

My musical roots are in Metal, with branches into Delta/Mississippi/Chicago Blues, some funk, and whatever Gorillaz is this week. So this genre fits nicely between my love of metal and blues, and it's an itch I can't scratch.

Maybe I'm talking in circles, it's quite late for me and my brain is in the process of blue screening. So go easy on me, if you don't like what I'm saying or think I'm an idiot, awesome, just move along and keep it to yourself.
