Hi everybody, I am a beginner videographer and got a couple of questions that I think this group can help me with.
I recently got a Sony FX30 with a Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 lens and a K&F ND Filter to elevate the quality of my personal projects, but given that I do enjoy filmmaking and the creative input it allows for, I thought a good way to start covering my investment is to start shooting for coffee shops and restaurants.
I currently work in hospitality and I could shoot a video for the company I'm working for to have an initial piece for my portfolio, and maybe for some more after that. However, after that I am still not 100% sure of the best way to approach this, or if there is one.
I have a couple of questions that I think you guys could help with, being the following:
Do you have any general tips or lessons you've learned that might be useful?
I am planning to film in Slog3 Cine EI to have as much control over the colors as possible, do you have any advice on quickly figuring out the best exposure keeping in mind that lighting conditions vary from shop to shop?
What's your approach to a project of such, do you have a broad shot list that you stick with or base everything on the location?
Do you recommend focusing on hospitality until I have a strong portfolio, and try to expand after?
How would I best price my services given that I am at the very start? Should I have packages, charge per video reel?
Worth mentioning is that I am currently based in Manchester, UK, but I am planning to move to Bucharest, Romania, around the beginning of July and will be there for a couple of months. So in terms of forming long-lasting relationships with businesses, it'd be a bit difficult unless I shoot a lot before I go. I am planning to keep this going in Romania as well over the summer, so before that I would need to do as much as possible to establish myself in a way, and also tailor the prices, as the economy is different.
