I've tried to take existing short stories and see how they fit with Blake Snyder's Beat Sheet. I'm having some difficulties -- especially with Philip K. Dick stories, where his protagonists many times don't fit most of the definitions of protagonists. (Many times they are "everyman" type characters without much drive to do anything except maintain the status quo.) Has anyone else tried using Beat Sheets for Science Fiction Short Stories? If so were you able to use Snyder's beats or did you have to modify them? So far I've read "Save the Cat", "Save the Cat Writes a Novel", Syd Field's "Screenplay" and his "Four Screenplays", Robert McKee's "Story" and his "Action", Larry Brook's "Story Engineering" (if you're unfamiliar with some of these, they are all related. Everything here anchors back to Syd Field's work.)
