Hey guys - moving to the Bay Area soon and curious what to expect when it comes to weather and riding. What is the soil and drainage like in the Bay Area when it comes to winter / wet riding?
I am coming from somewhere with unbelievably good soil drainage / absorption, the kind of place where you can ride while it's actually raining and don't have to worry at all about clay mucking up your tires and/or damaging the trails. I have also lived in places like the East Coast where you have the freeze/thaw cycle that basically shuts down MTB season from November until March (unless you want to ride in sub-freezing temps), and also in Socal where you can ride year round other than giving the trails a break for a day or two after heavy rain.
So, what should I expect on Bay Area trails in winter? Should I expect to be off the bike for a couple months when the rainy season starts? Or are there places in the Bay that more or less allow for year-round riding?
