Night guard is making my whole day miserable

Hey everyone,

I have a soft night guard from my old dentist that I originally stopped using a few months ago because it was causing tooth discomfort. My new dentist actually suggested I try using it again to help figure out whether my TMD issues are muscular or structural.

I’ve been wearing it again for about two weeks now, but honestly it’s been making things a lot worse. I’m getting intense migraines that sometimes turn into pain behind my eyes, and my whole day just feels miserable because of it. Even my molars feel really sore when I brush them in the morning.

I’m pretty conflicted because I know the simple answer might be “just stop using it,” but I also notice dentists tend to really push night guards. At the same time, I’m not convinced it’s actually helping my jaw at all, maybe protecting my teeth, but the overall pain has been pretty severe.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with a soft guard? Did it improve over time or did you end up not using the guard?
