Sorry if this doesn't seem appropriate to bring up here. I'm just looking for guidance for my assessment in my family violence class, and this was the first place I thought I could get some first-hand responses to my question.
So I have to identify a problem within systems (Police, government, services, etc) relating to family and/or gendered violence. It also has to relate to my last assessment.
my last assessment, I chose to focus on how perpetrators of family violence use family court proceedings to continue abuse post-separation from the family. I used a lot of articles about children who ran away from home after being forced to live with an abusive parent due to a lack of prioritising children's testimonies in court cases.
In these articles, I noticed that many children running away were immediately caught by police and instantly reunited with their perpetrator of violence, without so much as a thought. Many of the police officers say it's just procedure.
I decided to pick this as my problem I want to identify in my new assignment. Now i have to come up with a solution.
I was thinking of proposing a new procedure of first-responding police being mandated to look up the family's history relating to family violence (calls to police, court cases, and decisions, etc)
I'm trying to see if this is realistic or already a part of the first responder procedure for police. I can not find anything about the police's procedures for being first responders and how they investigate afterwards.
If anyone can help me with this, or if anyone can come up with a new problem/solution related to children in family violence cases in court, that would be amazing
p.s. it has to be Australian-based, but family violence experiences are worldwide, so idk
